Where did “Church Hubs” come from?

Church Hubs is a new and exciting initiative; one of the distinct ways that Christian education is delivered through the partnership between Horizon College & Seminary, and Master’s College & Seminary (MCS).

An Historic Alignment

In November 2023, the two oldest Pentecostal schools in Canada, Horizon (est. 1935) and MCS (est. 1939) signed a letter of intent to officially combine their institutions. The partnership was launched in early 2024, with the shared aim: to offer innovative, accessible, affordable pathways for training Christian leaders across Canada. Both schools provide undergrad, seminary, and co-vocational options, leveraging competency‑based education and distance learning.

Church Hub Pioneers: The Model Takes Off

While traditional approaches to leadership development have served the church well for generations, today’s challenges require an adaptive solution.

Enter Church Hubs.

Horizon and MCS are doing things a bit differently—and it’s working! By launching Church Hubs, students of our institutions now have the option to stay rooted in local ministry while being equipped academically. They apply to study with either Horizon or MCS, and their local church provides them with community, opportunity to serve, mentorship, and the physical space to complete their courses.

This is great news for Christian leaders who feel a call to ministry but can’t relocate. They can study where they currently attend church, learn about ministry while doing ministry, save money, and even combine their theological training with career training from an approved secondary institution.

This model strengthens the local church and the broader movement of ending the Christian leadership shortage.
